Pamper me in LAKE COMO!

My fiance and I wish to honeymoon in Lake Como. Our dream would be Villa d'Este but our pocket book says otherwise. We'd like to be pampered but for a bit more reasonable price. We could spend up to $450/per night but prefer less, of course.

Room service...rooms with balconies....Any suggestions for a great & pampering hotel?

If you want cheaper rooms for your honeymoon, book a junior suite with lakeview at Hotel Florence otherwise you may get a nightmarish room. The standard room quality is very diverse. There is no AC in any room, so it's not so great for summertime. The lakeside terrace restaurant at Hotel Florence has a perfect setting (as seen in paintings/photos). You can't get a table for dinner if you don't reserve in the morning. The german lady who runs the hotel can be a bit cranky but she speaks with a nice british accent as she studied at Oxford.

Thank you, thank you! These are great. I'm thoroughly impressed by the kindness of strangers on this site and will definitely return the favor once we're back from our trip!

DAX- I just looked into Hotel Florence. Beautiful! We are going in the beginning of September and I'm not the biggest fan of heat. Do you happen to know if our travel dates are too hot for no a/c? Thanks!

An alternative, with A/C might be the Belvedere but it is located above Bellagio itself and not right on the lakefront.

I have stayed at Villa D'Este, the rooms and spa are excellent, especially the SPA, but the views are better at Serbelloni, get a room with a patio. Plus the prices are a fraction of Villa D'Este. Different experiences.

Re: hotels in Bellagio, the Florence is located by the lake but not immediately on it. There's a small road in front. The Belvedere is uphill, just on the outskirts of Bellagio (a quite small town). The Belvedere has great views of the lake and mountains.

If you can afford a lakeview room at the Serbelloni, that would be a honeymoon ideal.

I haven't had occasion to stay in any hotels as I have the privilege of living on Lake Como. But I do pamper myself with restaurants: http://www.beginningwithi.com/food/rest.html

You might also consider a few days in Bormio http://www.beginningwithi.com/italy/...rmioagain.html

Have a wonderful time, wherever you go!

Hi Jagers, as I replied on your other posting, heat was not a problem in the first week of Sept last year. We had hazy skies during the first couple of days so the lake wasn't as beautiful as we remembered it. Fortunately the sky turned clear blue on our 3rd day and the lake became incredibly breathtaking.

We stayed in the annex suite of The Hotel Belvedere last July. It has a large living room, large very private terrace, and upstairs loft with kingsize bed. The views of the lake from the front windows and the terrace were magical. I think this would be a perfect start to your honeymoon!
