We will be in Rome later in the year and will be there over a Saturday, so could visit Palazzo Colonna. If you have been, I am interested to hear your thoughts about this attraction. Was it crazy crowded? Long entry lines? Interesting? Glad you went (or, if not, why).

Any info on this would be great.

I have visited and remember being part of a relatively small group that went from room to room as the guide gave us some background. I loved the place as well as the info provided and would return in a heart beat - could not believe that it took more or less 20 trips to Rome to see it!
No long entry lines to worry about.

I was glad I went, but it was a long time ago (2002) and I was one of only 2 or 3 people there at the time. Some priceless painting and other artworks, including the amazing ceiling of the ballroom -- WELL worth seeing IMO.

Wow, sounds like one those secrets that not many know about. I was afraid that the Saturday only entry would make it a zoo and hard to get in.

I have been to Rome many times and just recently found out about it. Was able to do it this last October and loved it. They offer a guided tour but I wasnt able to join it because the time didnt work for me, but still a wonderful experience. I think the pcitures you see on the website, while beautiful doesnt do it justice. Go, I dont think you will be disappointed.

And no lines to buy ticket or many people inside it. I was in Rome in late Sept and have never seen the city so crowded, but my visit to the Palazzo was an oasis of calm. Once I went back into the hustle and bustle of the city I was sorry that I didnt stay in longer!

I hear ya...I know it's in guidebooks but still not that well known. ...hide it in plain sight!

There are dozens of things in the guidebooks that are totally overlooked by the tourists who try to "do" Rome in a few days. The result is that the Colosseum, Vatican Museums, and Borghese Gallery are too crowded for enjoyment, while the many other wonderful palazzos, museums, and archaeological sites are practically empty.

This is on the top my list for my next visit to Rome! I recently saw a video tour and it looks amazing.

Palazzo Colonna - wonderful! I visited last April, not crowded, small guided tour of six. I think they offer late afternoon concerts, do check their web page. Something I hope to do on a future visit to Rome. Nearby, the Galleria Doria Pamphilj - another hidden gem, just beautiful.
