That's a good question. When we were in Italy, trenitalia.com wouldn't let us buy tickets from Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy, to Nice, France. I wonder if there's a problem when you cross a border? Maybe try budgeteuropetravel.com. If you call them, they are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

Not if the item in the far right column, under Acquista, says No.
Some Paris-Rome trains you can book on www.voyages-sncf.fr, for example the 19:06 night train from Paris-Bercy to Rome (Termini), I'm looking at €80 "Départ" or €130 "Flexi 1" - leave the country of delivery at France and proceed, then print out the website pages and the email confirmation and go to a long-distance window at a French station, show the identical credit card you used when booking online (important!), and get your ticket.
BTW - what I'm looking at is a dummy date of Monday July 17 (since I didn't know your date).
