No, that £7 is an off-peak cap. Since you arrive at 11:00, you're clear of the peak and good for Zones 1-6.
In the extremely unlikely event that you arrive earlier, make absolutely sure that you don't wave your Oyster at a reader before 9:30.

25 pound oyster card when we arrive atLHR - will cover zones 1,2 and 6?? we wont need anything else

You will load value on the Oyster for Pay-As-You-Go fares. The trip from Heathrow to King's Cross will deduct £2.20 from that value. If you take other Tube or bus trips, the corresponding value will be deducted. A Tube ride within Zone 1 costs £1.60, and a bus ride is £1 anywhere within Greater London.
Since you traveled from Zone 6 to Zone 1, your Oyster expenditure will be capped at £7 for the first day. But you might not even get to the cap, in which case your outlay will be less than £7.

Oyster is Pay As You Go, so it'll cover every trip you take on the tube. When you enter the tube station, you tap your Oyster; and when you exit the tube station, you tap your Oyster again. It automatically figures out what journey you had just taken and deduct the appropriate amount of money out of the Oyster stored value.
Since you won't arrive until 11am on March 12, the most it'll deduct on your Oyster that day will be 7 pounds (off-peak zone 1-6), no matter how many times you ride the tube and/or buses that day.

I need to take tube from LHR piccadilly line to Kings Cross tube station walk to Kings cross national rail station to purchase ONE one day travelcard for the day i want to use 2for1 and platform 9 3/4 is at Kings cross national rail station???
then tube to russell square and cab to city road travelodge.

If you are leaving the tube station at King's Cross -- why go back down into the tube to go 1 stop only to come back up to street level to catch a cab? You are over-thinking and complicating things too much (w/ some help I must say). If you plan on a taxi anyway - just get a taxi from King's Cross.

i assume this means travel card "The TC user can load £21" but will the travelcard user need this much for a one day?
really not trying to beat this to death just confused and want it all figured out well in advance

Robespierre - do you mean two oyster cards loaded with 25 pounds and the person who will be buying the one day travel card also buy oyster card loaded with 21 pounds because they will be leaving the oyster card at the hotel the day we use the travelcard?????
the oyster payasyougo will be all we need LHR to hotel -days in london and the hotel to london - with possibly needed to add a little but unlikely??
do i finally have it????

To reiterate, all three of you will get an Oyster card, which you will load at Heathrow with 30 pounds each, except if you want (you don't have to do this, because the difference will be refunded anyway), the person getting the 1-day paper travelcard can load a smaller amount onto the Oyster card because they will use the Oyster Pay-as-you-go one less day than the other people. To make it easier, though, or less confusing for you, when you arrive at Heathrow, buy three Oyster cards, and load 30 pounds on each. Get a 1-day paper travelcard At KIng's Cross for one person (this is separate from the Oyster card -- it's a one-day unlimited off-peak pass). Everybody uses their Oyster card every time they use the tube or bus, except that one day when the person with the paper travel card will use that instead. You will get no refund for the paper travel card -- you pay one price and get unlimited off-peak travel on that day. Otherwise, you will all use your Oyster cards, and each time you use it it will deduct the appropriate fare, BUT at the end of each day, if you've spent more than the daily cap, it will adjust the amount remaining on the card. At the end, you will turn in all the Oyster cards and whatever remains (plus the deposit) will be refunded.
