Overnight stay in Bad Ischl or Hallstatt

On our trip from Durnstein, Austria to Salzburg we were contemplating staying one night in either Bad Ischl or Hallstatt. Would one be recommended over the other? Any comments appreciated.

Hallstatt! It is an extremely charming village on the lake and backed up into the mountain. Beautiful!!! I stayed 2 nights there and loved it!

I stopped in Bad Ischel for a few hours... Had lunch ( in a gyro place where one of the friends of the kid that worked there came and sat at my table and talked with me while I ate my lunch. He and his family had moved there 6 months or so earlier from some mid-eastern country that I don't remember and he was working in one of the local hotels), walked around a bit then went to see the hunting lodge.

I would pick Hallstatt in a New York minute over Bad Ishel.

Bad Ischl is one of my favourite places I Austria. On a good day, having lunch or dinner on the terrace of the Kongresshaus is superb.
