While in Paris in April, we took a day trip to Normandy and toured the WWII landing beaches and the American Cemetery. It was well worth doing. We arranged ahead for a private tour. We were picked up at our hotel in Paris about 7:30 am and returned about 8:00 pm. There were 4 of us - I think that was the maximum number he was willing to take in his van. The price was about 420 euros. If we had gone on our own on the train and then taken a local tour once there, we would have spent in the neighborhood of 100 euros each and not have seen as much, so we felt this was a real bargain. If you would like email address and info for the tour guide we used, please email me. My sister arranged the trip and I would have to email her to get that info for you, but would be glad to.

We just got back from London & Paris with 2 kids (16 girl & 21 boy).My son enjoyed it more than my daughter. He liked the Eiffel Tower & climbing the 384 steps of the tower at Notre Dame (a killer!!). Versailles was popular with both but do spring for the audio-tour. We got that free when we got our train ticket & museum ticket in advance. Without the audio tour you don't really understand all that you see. My daughter liked the stalls along the Seine & got 2 prints for her room & some cheap souvenirs. Everyone enjoyed the boat tour.. probably because it didn't involve walking! We walked to the Champs de Lysee in the evening & saw the Eiffel Tower & Arc de Triumph light up (10:30 pm). That was beautiful.
My daughter thought things were a bit pricey for what she called Jerry Springer clothes at the markets on the street. We did browse through the Samartaine & went on their observation deck to see the view.

Have fun!

Jill,

I love Pere Lechaise cemetary in Paris. Sounds morbid but actually very interesting. Chopin is buried there as is Jim Morrison. There are also other famous people buried there (you can get a guide brochure at the cemetary). We loved walking around just seeing the headstones, some of which were from the 1300s.

Very near by Pere Lechaise is an open air market where you can shop.

Finally, not very different from American malls but just kind of interesting - under the Louvre is a shopping center. I did buy some sweaters and some small souvenirs there.

Enjoy your trip!

JB

My two ( 15 and 18) just returned from Paris. They loved the Louvre and musee d'orsay ( free for under 18). All the car dealers , Ferrari , BMW, Toyota etc.
on and near the Champs Elysee. Notre Dame, the Sorbonne , Latin Quarter, tour eiffel, all the parks ( monceau, citroen
vincennes , de la villette).
My daughter loved shopping on Boulevard Haussman , Galeries Lafayette, Printemps and (gasp!) the flea market at clignacourt. My son enjoyed watching the world cup games in different cafes and brasseries the most. They spent two weeks there and want to go back as soon as possible.
