My wife and I visited those cities in the summer of 1998. We stayed at the Rainbow Hotel Chain in both places and were very satisfied. I don't remember the prices. Be sure to take the Norway in a Nutshell tour between the Bergen and Oslo. You will be glad you did. I must say that we were extremely impressed with the people of Norway and found them to be the friendliest of any country we have visited. I am an area rep for an exchange organization and I have a student from Norway that I could put you in touch with if you have any specific questions about Norway. Enjoy your trip!
Check out the Radison SAS hotel right on the harbour in Bergen. Not sure of your age, but they offer all kinds of specials. We found that if you are over 60, they give your age off in percentage. If you are 62, they give you 62% off, if you are 100, you stay free. (Sorry, don't mean to imply you're nearing 100). But they also offer lots of other deals. It is a beautiful and architecturally interesting hotel, but relatively new and modern inside.
Susan, a couple years ago we stayed at the Radisson SAS Plaza in Oslo (there's another location I think too) near the train station. It was 700.kr then I think but could be wrong. In Bergen we stayed at the Hotel Hordaheimen, can't remember price. We loved Norway and I wrote about our trip on here. If you do a search for Norway, perhaps it can help you. And definetly do the Norway in a Nutshell as mentioned above. Have a great time.
