Organized tours from Naphilon

Has anyone stayed in Naphilon, Greece and taken organized group tours from there to
The ancient sites? I know that we can reach Naphilon by public bus from Athens easily, but I
Haven't found any good information about days tours from there.

You might have better success if you look under Nafplio or Nafplion, assuming that's the place you mean! (Transliterating is always tricky, isn't it?!?)

wanttogo, I know, it is very frustrating! On my first visit to Nafplio (1999!!) I met a couple at the town beach and they said, wanna go on a day-trip to Mycenae & Epidaurus? and I said SURE, and we trotted over to a travel agent right by City hall and signed up. It was great, both sites, and back by 4 pm. However... since then ... zippo! The reasoning I got was -- most tourists come on tours frm Athens that cover both of these, and and the few cruise ships that stop in Nafplio have their OWN excursions... and people staying in Nafplio often rent cars and D-I-Y.
You CAN do both sites by local bus, but not in one day, the skeds are not set up for it. Example: Epidaurus bus about 9 am, arr 9:45, bus back about 1 pm, but cannot then do Mycenae. If you have plenty of time, you can do 1 per day, then hit the town beach to relax.
Another idea: google "Excursions Tolo" or "Tolo GReece local Excursion agencies" Why? Tolo, a beach town only 15 minutes from Nafplio bus station attracts a LOT of UK and European tourists on package holidays, without cars, and they like excursions. Here's a Tolo agency I found that lists "daily excursions to archeological sites" http://www.tolo.gr/Businesses/Argoli...PK_travel-1724

Good luck! Nafplio is SO out of it on tourism, they don't even sponsor local walking tours any more. Dumb.

I agree with Travelerjan. We did Epidavrous and Mycenea on our on using the bus and research we did on the sites and did each site on separate days which was rather easy and less stressful rather than trying to squeeze in both sites in a short amount of time. It's rather easy and you'll save money and you'll be on your own schedule rather than a tour group that may or may not slow you down or take more time than you like.

Nafplio is one of Greece's loveliest towns and is a perfect place to base oneself for exploring the Argolis Peninsula and other nearby areas.

Check out Matt's Greek Guide or the wonderful Nafplio website:

Matts: http://www.greecetravel.com/nafplio/

Nafplio: http://www.visitnafplio.com/

You could days if not a few weeks there and still not see it all. It's one of the most overlooked areas of Greece and the rest of the Peloponese Peninsula is chock full of Old & New World Greece that doesn't get the over-the-top tourism of Big Name Greek Islands.
