Can this post possibly be accurate?
It's an extraordinary commentary on what passes for religion in Italy that this post implies virtually no churches are open in Rome during lunchtime.
In central London, practically every Catholic church stays open all day, because lunchtime is almost the only convenient time for workers to go to Mass. Anglican (and most other Protestant) churches stay open because that's what churches are there to be.
Presumably, Italy's nominal Catholics lock their churches up because the Roman Taliban who measure women's skirts and bar entry to worshippers not conforming to their (manmade)dress code need a leisurely lunch.
And of course in Italy conforming to dress codes matters far more than worshipping God.

flannetuk, you're just full of negative opinions now aren't you? My list is only including churches that I was personally interested in visiting because of particular art or architecture. It is by no means exhaustive. There were pleanty of churches open through the lunch hours for worshipers. You may be correct about the dress code policy however I think closings are more meant to protect the art and since most of the attendants I saw were volunteers, perhaps they like to have a chance to eat lunch like a Roman.
