Note in response to Hunkster's post on 8/24/2000:
"Saucepan of the Sinners" is very likely something like Casserole du Pecheurs. Casserole can mean saucepan, but also stew - as well as a narcotics officer! Pecheurs are sinners, but also fishermen, the difference being the type of accent over the first "e". So the dish is probably "Fishermen's Stew".
As for "Rawness", that would be "Crudite" - raw vegetables such as carrot and celery sticks and the like.

In Florence for Epiphany, we went to mass at the Duomo. During the Kiss of Peace, where everyone in the congregation exchanges a kiss/hug/handshake and says "Peace," or "Peace be with you," we jumped right in and participated in Italian. We got some puzzled looks, and a few little kids laughed. Turns out that instead of saying 'pace,' we had been saying 'pesce,' and wishing our fellow parishoners the "fish of the Lord"!
