LOL - four pairs of shoes and a kettle!"
Laugh all what you want, in 20 years traveling, I bring my heavier/hiking shoes in the plane,in the suitcase my tennis with socks in, flat sandals and slippers for 20 years traveling, I'm size 6. Also, when you have kids as I do, they want cocoa I want my coffee and the small little kettle doesn't make any space as it's also fill with usually the toletries. I see that usually the ones to criticize are the ones who don't have kids or forgot what having kids is.

I forgot that we pack the small items in ziplock bags and the tops and bottoms in individual vacuum bags. This year for our 5 weeks in Italy we are giving the Biaggi 27" not full, a try and one hard 24" suitcase for my daughter and I.
We bring a week worth of clothing for each, I wash our clothes once a week, just light cotton.
