mainhattengirl...
I'm so glad you managed to complete your Camino.
I had been wondering how Denise and Felicity had been doing - I last saw them in Pamplona when they were both struggling; I did wonder if they would continue so it is good to hear that they did. They are probably still out there now but I hope they manage to get to Santiago.

annhig...
Your colleague would have been walking the Camino del Norte if she started at Saint Jean de Luz. Apparently it is wonderfully scenic as it follows the coast of northern Spain, and then joins the Camino Frances closer to Santiago de Compostela.

julia - I've not yet had a chance to discuss it with her in detail as we were working, but I will try to make an opportunity when I see her again next week.

I like the sound of a coastal route!

I was wondering, do any people walk FROM Santiago these days? Instead of/as well as TO Santiago? After all, the pilgrims had to get home again the same way they went.

A number of people walk back, as I passed quite a few of them. They all looked really, really tired and rather bedraggled.

good point, Thursdaysd. Not that there is any chance of my doing it in either direction, but it had occurred to me too.

Walking back from Santiago de Compostela is not that common these days - not many people have the luxury of time in which to do it.

On the subject of age, on the caminodesantiago.me forums, one Canadian woman reached Santiago 2 days ago - just in time to celebrate her 80th birthday. She set out from St Jean Pied de Port on 25th September, so walked the 800km in 5 weeks!

And here is another Camino granny (82) in the news...

Julia, kudos to you. I just wanted to say that the Camino in SW France goes right over the top of our house, so we often see pilgims stopping to have a picnic on our roof, and we love it. Not so much the general tourists who decide to stop there and throw their sausage wrappers on our roof, but it's OK.

We want to do it some day - start right off from our house here and head down into Spain. Don't know if my bad left foot/ankle will ever cooperate, but with the help of excellent doctors here in France I think I'll be able to. I'm not crippled or anything, just a bit wobbly now and then.

Anyway, good for you! I read this outloud to my husband last night as we sat before our wood stove in the deep woods of the Périgord, and it's maybe going to become a major goal for us, at least a small part of it.

StCirq... well, they say everyone's Camino begins when you leave your house - how wonderful for you to actually be able to walk out of your front door on to The Way!

I sincerely hope your foot heals enough to enable you to do this, I know from previous threads that walking the Camino is something you want to do.

Your post reminded me that earlier this year, at the end of April I was driving around the Dordogne - I visited la Grotte du Sorcier in St Cirq! - nursing my sore back and sore foot, walking as little as possible. With absolutely no thoughts of ever being able to walk even part of the Camino. Then a chance meeting in Toulouse with a French-Canadian woman who was about to begin her Camino; we talked only briefly, yet what she said to me really fired the spark and within weeks I had decided to start April 2016.

And now that is to be the second stage of my Camino, which I think about every day, and am so looking forward to!

schnauzer... looking forward to that too!

The Camino del Norte...

After seeing these incredible photographs taken in October 2015, I want to walk it too!

Thank you for sharing your experience Julie_t. I've signed up for the Camino Frances the last 100 or so kms at the end of May. I'll be doing the guided version with Camino Ways. So my fingers are crossed and I've started training

I have literally just walked another 90km of the Camino. I am writing this on my kindle at a bar in Navarrete, drinking local txacoli wine (white, I shall move on to rioja later) and snacking on tapas. Tomorrow I travel home.
I may not do a trip report as I did last time, but I have posted brief updates on my Facebook page (it's public so anyone can see it), the link is below.
I've had a fantastic time, and will be back for certain in September or October.

Absolutely amazing Julia - well done you! Loved your report and your photos. Many thanks.

Camino is on my list of things I MUST do, ever since reading cruisluvs first report (how long ago was that?). I have the books & maps, and have studied it for years, and drove most of it over 3/4 trips to Northern Spain.

All I need to do now is get my lazy arse off the couch

Best ... Ger

I'm recently returned from another stint on the Camino - I walked for 10 days from Navarrete (where I finished in May) and reaching Carrion de los Condes.

I have now walked pretty much HALF-WAY across Spain!

I posted a daily short 'blog' with photos on facebook (an open page so you don't need to sign up to view it...

https://www.facebook.com/juliawalkst...homepage_panel

I still have more photos to post, and will do so in the next week or so.

Sometime I will post info on the albergues/hostals/casa rurals/hotels where I stayed.
