One Nighter in London

My wife and I will be arriving at Heathrow in early Nov. for a day and an evening in London. We will go into the city for some sightseeing, dinner and ?? Would you suggest a hotel near the airport or in the city? We depart at 1PM from Heathrow. Any hotel suggestions - $150 - $250. <BR>Thanks

We stayed at the Sheraton Skyline for an overnighter at Heathrow-they do NOT have free shuttle service like in USA- you need to purchase 2 super shuttle tkts for a one way from airport to hotel--rooms are modern, clean, and full of businessmen and airline personnel.

I would definitely recommend staying the night in central London. This would mean you can relax and enjoy your evening, and you have plenty of time to get to Heathrow the next morning. If you plan to travel into and out of town by taxi, I would suggest one of the many hotels in Kensington, for easy access to Heathrow. If you intend to use the Paddington Express train, I would suggest staying in one of the hotels around Bayswater Road, which would be a quick taxi ride to Paddington station. Beware of the 'cheap and nasty' hotels around the Bayswater and Paddington areas, but at your budget you should find something quite nice.

I would agree with the previous poster that Kensington and Bayswater are best bets for proximity to outlets in/out of Heathrow. I would definitely stay in the city as opposed to by the airport.

The London Elizabeth would be ideal for getting to Paddington (you can walk it if you can manage your luggage) and is convenient to seeing sights in all areas of London. You can walk through Hyde Park to Kensington or you can easily get to anywhere on the tube. Lancaster Gate or Marble Arch stations are closeby. Don't miss enjoying your evening in London. Heathrow Express is a joy.

I will add to the consensus that you should stay in Kensington High Gate instead of airport areas. There are a large range of hotels from quaint to chain type that are within your budget. Don't forget to see some theatre while in town- a great websight to arrange for tickets is What's on Stage.com
