Beth, I happened upon the website with a reference for the (new this month) "Highly Skilled Migrant Programme" at the Home Office, http://www.dfee.gov.uk/ols - look for the link at the bottom. It's a new points-based system (education, earnings, etc.) to work around the work permit thing. Shows that it's surprisingly easy to migrate if you have a Nobel Prize or an Oscar to your credit. Doesn't everybody?

It appears that some time ago the work permit offices (along with the rest of the Home Office?) moved to Sheffield. When I had to deal with them (which involved a great deal of mumbled profanity on my part and adherence to some handbook written by Kafka on theirs,) they were based in the aptly named Lunar House in Croydon. To the moon, Alice, I would say, and they wouldn't get it, of course.

Good luck in your endeavors.
