I'm going to be in the Netherlands for a week in April and grew up eating Olie Bollen at New Years. I haven't had any for years and am wondering if I can get my fix in either Amsterdam or Leiden or are they only available at New Years?

Oliebollen tend to only be available at New Year. You can buy a pack of oliebollen mix in the supermarket all year round I believe. I don't like them personally, so don't pay much attention to them.

The quality of oliebollen at the stands varies greatly anyway, and you could end up with some real duffers.

Poffertjes are available all year round. Maybe you should try those?

I used to live in The Netherlands and you will see "stalls" selling most of the year. During the winter these stalls are more popular.

We had some this NYE even though I now live in Spain!

in april there are precious few "hollandse gebakkkramen" to be found. Actually, almost none. Also, why someone would want to eat the things is beyond me.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'll check out a grocery store for a mix. Alternatively I guess I could break down and learn how to make them myself. Who can say no to a delicious deep fried fritter with powdered sugar. Yum!
