ok, what's the secret about the search?
As I have had several suggestions to "Search" for things when I have been posting questions on the board, I have been making a vailiant effort to master this search thing..
but just now, when typing in "Maribel,Hotel,Barcelona" I received the very interesting and totally unrelated "Ray Skinner's London Car Service" along with a multitude of equally nonrelated topics!
Sigh, can you help?
Not a newbie, just not a very with-it Fodorite

You need to put the word AND in between the keywords, otherwise Fodors will only pull up the phrase in the exact order you type it.
"hotel AND barcelona AND maribel" will get you plenty, because it searches for threads containing all of these words soemwhere in it.
"hotel barcelona maribel" may not get you a single thing, because it searches only for this exact phrase.
Hope that helps!

The latter search should help lots! Here's one thread in particular about Barcelona hotels with Maribel's high, mid-range, and budget choices:

PS: The text search does NOT like punctuation. If you put a comma, a period, or any other type of symbol into the text box, I believe it truncates the search to only the word or words prior to that symbol.

Yes, the search function does seem to look at the exact phrase in that exact order, which is why the shorter you can make the search (and still be specific) the better in case someone has misspelled something.
For example, I searched for Les Baux and then simply Baux. One thread was left out of the first 10 because that person called it Le Baux.
You can also use + in place of AND.
You can use OR (suppose you want references to chateau or chateaux)

I'm fairly sure that you cannot use "+" instead of "AND" because it's a symbol....
I just tried "barcelona + hotel + maribel" and got zero hits, when the same search using the word AND got at least 20.

You're right, Lesli. It worked for me because I was using two words that go together in the right order. When I reversed the order, I got nothing. It must regard the + like quote marks, keeping the phrase together.
