A few years ago, we stayed in an apartment in the area of your cancelled one, on historic Rue de Commerce just off Rue St. Andre des Arts.
You can find it on www.perfectplaces.com, property ID: 24752

I don't know your dates or price range, but it might be worth checking out. I sure do wish you luck!

Wow...this absolutely horrible. I just rented from vacationinparis in September and had a great experience...so much that I booked another apt for June 2012. Another agency I had considered and had very positive communication with was www.guestapartment.com. In the end I decided I wanted to stay in a different location ( they only rent on the Il Saint Louis) so I went with the other company. The apts at www.guestapartment .com look fabulous and I actually think this is a location that your in laws would really love.

I agree Vacation in Paris should be doing much more for you...it really is unacceptable and is making me question doing any more business with them.

Good Luck...wishing the best for you.

As much as I feel for cafegoddess, and as much as I feel that VIP made a wrong business call here, I really don't see any scam or anything deserving of pile-on punishment.

It looks like the owner of the apartment had a meltdown in the renovation process. It is too bad VIP did not pony up the damage waiver, pay the difference in the nightly rate for the customers already booked, and sucked it up about "firing" the manager and let the owner work with somebody else until all current bookings had expired. *Then* they could have terminated the relationship.

But maybe that best case scenario for renters and themselves was really not in the cards, and they had to walk away from a bad situation and do what they could for the people who trusted them.

They are looking at a lot of bad press over one apartment and one impossible owner. Perhaps they should start offering to help clients like cafegoddess to locate other apartments quickly, even if it means handing them over to the competition.

Aloha Everybody,

Thank you very much for all the replies.

My husband and I decided not to rent from Vacation in Paris, now or in the future. They offered us an apartment that cost $100 more per night but it is only available for 7 nights, we don't want to move in the middle of our vacation. We have our parents with us, and it will make it too difficult. I am more upset that my in-laws felt that if they were not coming, we wouldn't have a hard time finding an apartment. My in-laws are so kind and sweet, we told them we are not going if they don't come with us.

We got lucky because Hotel Madison still have two Rooms available with the Boulevard View. Fingers crossed that we would get the rooms with the church view. Meanwhile we are keeping in touch with Paris Perfect in case a unit becomes available on the 6th.

Welcome2France has a two bedroom/two bath unit in St. Germain with an elevator but I can't find any recent review on them on the forum. So I don't think I want to take a chance.

artsbabe,

I love that apartment, we actually thought about renting it but my husband does not feel comfortable renting a one bedroom/one bath with four people. Now that VIP lost our business, we will certainly be renting from them in the future. The kitchen is gorgeous! Thank you for letting me know about Parisian Flat.

Zeppole,

I agree with you. As a business owner, this is what I would have done. I got the feeling that they were more concerned about their inconvenience than their customers.

cafegoddess, we've used www.parisvacationapartments.com several times and have always received excellent service. Their apartments are all large, most with king sized beds. You may want to check their website for your dates.

Thanks Lynn_Gibson!...re: qwovadis -thinking the same thing and stop with the double spacing on the forum...makes your comments way too long to read

Cafe Goddess...I am so sorry-stressful! A Parisian Grinch is trying to steal your Christmas but glad to hear you have found rooms at the Madison. I hope Paris Perfect can come up with an apartment, but you will be in Paris and you know how great it is! Will be watching for your T/R.

denisea,

You bad girl! After reading your trip report, I knew I had to spend Christmas in Paris. We will have Christmas dinner at the Four Season just like you did.

Have a great time next month in Paris.

Thanks Judy and SuzChicago, I will check out Paris Vacation Apartments.

I had a bad experience with VIP during the rental process so I walked away at that point, although that was several years ago. They just wouldn't give me complete photos of a place (they refused to show me a photo of the bedroom and bathroom)I was interested in and refused to give me a contract. I think they now have contracts, but I thought that was very amateurish for any place calling itself a business.

But I know a lot of people like them, and while I think they should have offered you a better discount (or made it the same price) on what they had, I don't understand how people expect them to come up with apartments to give to you comparable to the one you had. How are they supposed to come up with a vacant apartment out of the blue. They are an agency that rents apartments from owners who sign up with them, they can't possibly have vacant apartments sitting around empty for no reason.

I checked VIP today, and the rental is still listed on their site. I can only assume that the prices listed today are the new one mentioned by the OP, and not what they bargained for in their deal?

The current price is about the highest price of any apartment on VIP.

The Madison Hotel-----we stayed there in a boulevard room a few years ago before the renovation, so when we were in Paris in Sept. we had to stop in and take a look. From the photos we thought that they might have gone too modern and lost that wonderful French look.

Not so, it is modern but still oh so French. Absolutely beautiful. Also, the desk personel is much friendlier. The young man on duty seemed very happy to tell us all about the renovations. He told us that we could come back for breakfast (which we remember as being quite good) because you did not have to stay there to eat there. Something you wouldn't expect---it's really not a restaurant. We had planned to do so, but ran out of time.

It's quite pricy but well worth it and the location is perfect. I'll be looking forward to your trip report. Christmas in Paris! Now that's a dream vacation.
