I went for something with ankle protection--got something like the Gore-Tex Day Hikers from LL Bean. They've served me will thru hot and cold weather, snow and rain, city streets, jungle trails, and rocky mouuntain paths.
I went with the slightly raised ankle support style after spraining my ankle on the edge of a rather ragged French country road several years ago. It didn't ruin the rest of the trip, but it sure made it less enjoyable than it might have been.

I understand that freeze dried Bud will soon be on the market. Just add ice water and serve after it reconstitutes. Takes about 5 minutes. You can pack 3 or so gallons in a space the size of a shoebox.
Plenty of water in Switzerland.

Resurrecting this thread.
bob_brown, I'm looking forward to a "real beer."
LLindaC, I did talk my wife into purchasing a pair of shoes similar to your link.
Now, after reading more recent posts about the weather at some higher elevations in mid-to-late-May, cold and could be some snow, I'm trying to talk her into a similar jacket that I purchased - water-resistant shell with zip out fleece. She could wear just the windbreaker, just the fleece liner for dry days, or a combination of the two for higher elevations.
She doesn't think she will need this, and I'm getting feedback such as "I'm going on vacation -- why are you trying to freeze me to death?"
What would you suggest?

Budman, please save some beer for us, okay? Seriously, they were talking about you at all the wineries. ;-)
I suggest that she takes an ultralight GoreTex Jacket. I'm really into GoreTex cause I hate getting WET. She can layer that with long sleeved t's, etc. Layering works much better than a buky jacket.Land's End has a nice one for 95 bucks- they can cost you up to 400, geez. I shop a lot at CampMor and Sierra Trading Post- they have great prices. Here's a link to the LE jacket.
