Alas, like Prince Philip, I will be conveniently out of town during the wedding and can't attend the wedding. Seriously, if I weren't going to be in Paris, it would be tempting to buzz up the road to Windsor and see what kind of brouhaha actually develops the day of the ceremony.
Other than a mild degree of idle curiousity, can't say I care one way or another. So much speculation from pro and anti royalists, though, it might be interesting to see how things unfold someday when Charles Wrecks takes over the throne.

The Australian republic referrendum was a total cop-out sabotaged from the beginning. There is no way Australia will ever pass a system where we have to trust our politicians to elect their own boss. A directly elected president is the only consitutional model that will ever be passed. We have to wait for Mr Howard to stand down so that Mr Costello can provide us with a proper referendum. I believe the republican movement has more than enough support. The problem in the referendum was the model.
Gone a bit off topic there but just wanted to make the point, pretty much nobody in Australia under the age of 70 actually supports the monarchy. However, the Queen does have a good track record for non-interference. We tend not to trust our politicians.

There is something different about her lately..and I dont think that the reason is because she is so much in love with her prince or is the thought of being a Queen someday either.
Something is surely different about her..
Her face has less wrinkles, her chin is thighter.. we women can always tell..

At the risk of being a Pollyanna, have you considered that she looks younger/better because she is finally being allowed to openly admit her love for Charles, and will be allowed to marry him?
Love is a very powerful force!

Kate - I like your comment, "Charles isn't hated, we just think he's a bit of a bumbling idiot. But he's OUR idiot... "
It's possible that Charles, once king, may (as others have mentioned) prove to be a good monarch. Look at Queen Elizabeth II's father: George VI (Bertie). When his brother Edward VIII abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson, there was talk of bypassing Bertie for king. He stuttered terribly, had facial tics, and suffered from what the "family" called gnashes...fits of uncontrollable rage. Two of his other brothers were not great choices either: Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester was incredibly dull (or dumb), and Prince George, Duke of Kent was bi-sexual and liked to cross dress.
George VI turned out to be a wartime king who overcame his problems to lead his country with great distinction.
Sometimes the frog does turn into the prince.
Maybe Charles will surprise us all.

I guess I stand corrected Neil. My step-grandmother is a British citizen and that was what we were always told. Now I am thoroughly confused.
I wondered myself why Edward had to abdicate, and yet now Charles does not.
I think Camilla had a face lift. She looks less bulldogish, for sure. Guess I am cynical, more like the love of her new plastic surgeon. My be a pretty talented Doc.
I am going to try to read that artical and hopefull it explains how she gets to be Queen and not princess Consort.

I read somewhere that Edward renounced his throne not because he fell in love with a divorced woman, but because he was a weak person and never really wanted to be a King.
Marrying his lover was an excellent way out for him to abdicate with grace.

Don't forget, Wallis Simpson had been divorced twice! Also, I think that it's very obvious that Camilla has had a face lift. And her hair color has been lightened. I have "followed" the English royal family ever since I got up very early to hear the wedding of the Queen and Philip on the radio. No tele then! I've managed to see all of them at least once, usually at the birthday celebration of the Queen Mother, always a happy occasion, outside Clarence House. But then I've never watched soap opera or even "Dallas".

Au contraire, Edward abdicated because he found a woman who could give him a thoroughly good caning!! 'Tis the British way, especally after years of upper class public schooling.
Glitterball, tsk tsk, you should be ashamed. Why do you think they're referred to as the "horsey" set?
BTW, to what does your Fodors "handle" refer?

>Camilla or not,
There'll always be an England.
You reckon?
Will there still be an England when the large magelanic cloud colides with our galaxy? Will there still be an England when our star goes nova? Or even before that when it expands to the extent that England is insidd it?
Just playin with ya. Wondering though, what the relevance of your comment to the disucssion is.

Oh and just before they execute me for treason can I just be a wee tad pedantic?
The Queen is not Queen of England - she is Queen of Great Britain and Northern Island plus a few other territories we plundered years ago (sorry Australia) - England is just one country in this wee set up, just as Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are.
There now.
