Official colosseum website is driving me mad

I had a post earlier this month where I mentioned having trouble getting night colosseum tickets through the coopculture website for October. The website states every Monday new availability is released for the following week. So far so good. Problem is there is never actually any availability. Yes, I know it may be too early for October, but there is never availability for any day or month.Thinking to solve the problem, I decided we’d do the night tour with walks of Italy. Tremendous. More expensive, but problem solved.

My next thought. Hey, we’d like to see the Roman Forum and Palatine hill. We can just download an audio guide and take our time strolling through. Nope. Tickets seem to only be sold in conjunction with colosseum tickets, so when you press buy now they are not available because... you guessed it. You must have a reservation with date and time for the colosseum which isn’t available. What?!?!?

Plan c - Hey look at this. There is a forum /Palatine hill ticket! Wait. It’s a super ticket. What the *#@* is a super ticket? Does it give me access to the forum and palatine hill? Yes! But wait what about a ticket for my 17 year old who should have free admittance. I think. Right? They don’t list a free entry option for youth. Does that mean we need to buy her a full price ticket or wait in the lines we were hoping to avoid on the day of the visit? Also, being from the US, is her state id sufficient proof of age?

I am clearly having trouble here. What am I not getting? Help, please.

I don't know about the other tickets, but the night-time Coliseum tickets are probably sold out. I will be in Rome 9/10-17 and wanted to do this. I bought the ticket on June 23, so almost 3 months before the date I wanted. Even then, out of 7 possible nights, only 1 had availability, and that one had only 1 time slot left. I took a look on the website, and October is "live," so it's apparently sold out.

I believe all of the night time tickets were released at once, in April, through the end of the year, and they were sold out almost immediately. I am hoping to book a 45-minute English guided tour for October, and am hoping that when the tickets are released next week, I'll be able to score them.

Does anyone know if the lines to purchase tickets for under 18’s, since you can’t get them online for many attractions, is as long as just walking up to buy tickets in general?
