Silk long johns, of course! I'd forgotten about those since we haven't spent much time in wintry climes lately but I will hunt them out; probably still in the back of a drawer. Those, a couple of layerable cashmere sweaters, warm socks, a muffler and working up a sweat on the hills should do the trick.
That's answered...now what shall I worry about?
I've booked the Nira Caledonia for 4 nights. Comments? I know the walking is steep, but that's what Uber is for, right?

Very nice hotel (used to be a well know property called the Christopher North. It closed and was refurbished a few years ago) -- it will be a slog getting to most places. I wouldn't bother w/ uber in Edinburgh -- between the tram, buses and cabs.

I have looked at the Nira but for reasons janisj mentioned have not stayed there, but it's nice and you'll be fine. Try to report back on the Nira. No Uber,if you need them taxi's will likely work better for you. I always walk and I'm definitely a senior.
Just remember to arrange your sightseeing so you're not retracing your steps up/ down the Royal Mile.
BTW, of course I meant << easily wash in sink >> not " steadily".

Thanks janisj and historytraveler for feedback on the Nira. I chose it because it looked quite nice online. The price was less than some of the other options in that category as I took advantage of a promotion Tablet.com was running. I'm sure we'll manage, though it might be a less convenient location.
Thanks for the clarification historytraveler, "washing steadily" would have left little time for sightseeing! ;-)
