Obtaining Travel Insurance

Hi All,

I booked a round-trip flight from the U.S. to Paris for end of March 2003. Although my wife and I are very optimistic and eager to go, I wonder if I can still purchase some insurance in lieu of possible war with Iraq during that time. Does anything like travel insurance exist? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you.

Hi Vince,

Travel insurance does exist. You can purchase it through travel agents and other places. HOWEVER, please no that travel insurance will most likely NOT cover you not wanting to go to France because of a war in Iraq.

They cover things like if you have a medical emergency or a death in the family or things like that.

Try www.travelinsure.com for details. They do have a thing called "terrorist" insurance, but that's for if a terrorist act occurs either in your starting city or your destination city only.

A war with Iraq shouldn't have an impact on a trip to Paris. Go, have fun, and don't worry.

Oops, that "no" was supposed to say "note".

Vince, there are hundreds of travel insurance websites. This one can quote you a policy for protecting non-refundable airline tickets. There is a time period after which you can't get the insurance. Be sure to check with your medical insurance what is and what is not covered if something happens to you or your wife overseas. Check also what would happen if you lost your bags, if you had to remain overseas for a medical condition, etc. A lot of people go without proper insurance by assuming everything is fine, but you have to do your research, even with the credit card companies on what they do and do not cover when you are overseas. I hope this helps you.
http://tripinsurancestore.com/3/tick...rage-plus.html

I know that one of the policies that Travel Guard sells does have a "change of mind" clause. At least it did when I purchased it for last May.
BUT, I cannot remember if you had to purchase it by a certain date after you made your travel plans. I know that this particular coverage only was for a small amount paid back for each person. I think it was only $250 each. But it was for anything, even if you just didn't feel like going.

we purchased travel insurance through the Travel office of AAA. Bear in mind there are some limits/exclusions however we felt it afforded us some security as we had already paid out a good sum of cash for rental housing in Italy. The threat of war loomed then as well and it seemed the insurance was not going to cover that should we decide not to go.
