Oban Hotel Information
Hello, I am looking for any information about either of these two guest houses in Oban.
Glenrigh Guest House and MacKay’s Guest House. Both are about the same price, are in the same location and offer full breakfast. My hesitation is that on one website they are both rated with high marks 9.2 and 9.4 out of 10. Review are recent and very nice. On another website one is rated far lower than the other. I’m sure either will be fine but am just looking for input from someone who has stayed at either of these places.
Thanks

I used Trip Advisor, Booking.com and Hotels.com for reviews. I too thought the 2 were owned by the same person (because of the web-page).
Any other suggestion for hotels in the area would be great.
The difficulty is that we need 4 rooms.
Thanks again.

I'd take booking.com as the most reliable. Only people who have actually stayed there (and booked through the website) are allowed to post reviews -- Booking sends them an e-mail after the stay and asks for a review. Hotels.com is similar -- but I find they do tend to filter out more reviews.
Anyone can post a review on TA -- whether they've stayed in a place or not.

Both B&B's are located on the Esplanade heading to the ruins of Dunollie Castle. I always refer to it as B&B Row.
I' ve stayed in Oban at least a half dozen times but always stay on Gallanach Road on the other side.
Regarding ratings, janisj is right about booking.com reviews vs. TA., but .2 of a point difference isn't worth worrying about IMO.
If possible try to get room(s) with a sea view.

Thanks for the info about who can rate a hotel. I have received review forms from Booking.com (I use them a lot) but never realized I was receiving it because I used them for booking the room. I'll be honest, I use TA for reviews, but I have never used them to book a room, as I always seem able to find a lower price elsewhere.
Thanks for the mention about requesting sea views, I'll do that.
