Nutella Lovers: recipe for gelato using Nutella

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05209/544651.stm

Scroll down to the bottom of the article on goat's milk ice cream, and there's a recipe for Chocolate Hazelnut Gelato, using 1 cup of Nutella. (You can use whole cow's milk)

I LOVE YOU GRANDMERE!

You don't know how I loved Nutella Gelato while on vacation. I'm just about to drool thinking about it!

I have a question about one of the ingredients - 3 cups whole milk or goat milk, divided. How do you divide milk? I'd be using the whole (cow) milk.

I just read the recipe again. Is the "division" because 2.5 cups are used at one time followed by the other half cup a bit later? Is that what is meant by "divided?"

They say "divided" in recipes so folks don't throw in the whole amount of whatever it is at one time; have been guilty of doing this myself when not reading recipes carefully.

If you try it, let us know!

I just need to sweet talk a friend who has an ice cream maker. I bet for Nutella Gelato, it shouldn't be too difficult!

Thank you grandmere! I'm going to give this a try.

A quick question for anyone out there: is it usual practice to put cornstarch in gelato? I was a little surprised to see that.

moldy,

Cuisinart has an ice cream maker that is completely idiot-proof, and only four pieces. Store the bowl in the freezer, no added ice or salt or anything. Well worth the small investment.

The cornstarch is used as a thickening agent since there are no eggs in the mixture.

For a quick and easy fix, we take Nutella and drizzle it over Trader Joe's yummy chocolate gelato. It's not perfect, but it satisfies nonetheless... =)
