Not on the map places??

We will be spending 2 glorious weeks in Tuscany region this summer..we've been before and seen the major sights - Rome, Florence, Venice. This time we want to stay in one place and "soak" up the atmosphere visiting places that aren't even on maps - the kind where only a handful of people live and there's only one restaurant in town...where life is sweet...do you know of such places?

Orvinio - - while it is on any map of Rieti you pick up, it doesn't have even one restaurant. It does have a bakery, two churches, and a sort of little bar/deli. There is one place to stay, with the Marchese of the town who owns the town's one major structure, a 12th century "castle". He isn't listed this year with the one service which helped me find him (in 1999). But I think I could put you in touch with him, or someone who knows him (a jeweller in the same town, who functions as a kind of self-appointed chamber of commerce for the town, and tour guide to nearby 8th century Romanesque ruins - - no paved road access).

I'm not sure I could see spending more than a few days there, though. Although less than 90 minutes from Rome (50 minutes to the GRA), it's 20 minutes down a windy-mountain road to any other civilization.

Please note: Orvinio is not to be confused with Orvieto.

Best wishes,

Rex
Sorry, I was not clear. We have a place already rented between Siena and Florence. We're looking for little out of the way places for a 1/2 day or day trip as we meander in the area.

Okay then. Ambra. Between Siena and Arezzo. Not too far from
Bucine. And it does have one restaurant.
