Northern Italy in May-June 2024
We will be in northern Italy for 5 weeks (from the start of May to early June) and will have a car for most of the time. We love the mountains but also want some stays in places with cultural and architectural richness. I think that this itinerary makes reasonable sense as a circuit, but would love any further thoughts or advice. We'll be staying in each place for 4 or 5 nights and will be arriving and departing from Marco Polo airport. Our stays are currently as follows and in this order:
- Collect car from Marco Polo airport and drive to Asolo. Stay in Asolo
- San Martino di Castrozza
- San Candido
- Vipiteno
- Bormio
- Riva di Solto, Lake Iseo
- Vicenza. At this point we return the car (on arrival in Vicenza)
- Train to Venice
- Fly home from Marco Polo airport.

Riva di Solto is a tiny village on Lake Iseo. Unless there is specific accommodation you like there or another reason, you might find it more convenient to stay on the eastern side of the Lake or in Sarnico, places better connected by road or ferry for day trips. Here are some useful tips for visiting Lake Iseo:

Rolle Pass and Jaufen pass will be open. Umbail/Stelvio may be closed in May. You would then have to make the detour from Spondigna via Pass dal Fuorn/Ofen Pass - Livigno - Eria Pass - Focagno Pass to Bormio.
