north east corfu: walking distances between resorts

The resorts of Kalami, Agni and Agios Stefanos appear only a couple of miles apart which suggests I wont need to rely on the water taxis there and back. I am a keen walker and wondered if anyone has gone by foot between the various resorts? I am staying in Kalami.

Thanks ira - Corfu isn't the most popular topic. I'm not going to hold my breath.

You may have done this already, but using google maps you may be able to determine if there are walking paths.

Steve

Would love to know how you go on. I went 30 years ago and am considering a revisit.

Thanks yorkshie
Google was helpful but it doesn't help you judge the difficulty. Yanumpty, I guess it might have changed since you were there as a tot

Yeah I even looked myself because this is the kind of question I often have on my travels. I think the question is if that is a busy road that you have to walk along--using the sat image I saw no coastal path. good luck!

Last time I went I was 10. We hired a car but our maximum spped was 12 mph. There were so many tortoises in the road we had to move them every 30 yards. we stayed on a 20 mile empty beach on the north coast outside Roda. just remember playing on the beach for 12 hours a day. Also remember finding black crabs in the field.... but they weren't crabs!

I have a tot now, could be time to try it out again. MIL had a terrible experience in Roda 2 years ago, it was far too busy for her.

Okay, I give in, if they weren't crabs what were they?

The walk from Kalami to Yaliskari is about 20 minutes by coastal path which you have to pass before going to Agni Bay so it would be about 30 minutes but Agios Stephanos would take you about 50 minutes to an hour. If you want a nice walk, Kouloura is very pretty and about a 15-20 minute walk on the road.
Corfu is best explored by scooter if you can rent one. I recommend it because the bus is really slow and there are so many beautiful places around there. Enjoy the wonderful scenery. You picked a nice area to stay and if you get a chance read Prospero's Cell by Laurence Durrell's to get you in the mood and definitely visit his house there.

Thanks Nadia, I'm a bit old for a scooter... I had thought we would hire a car and tour the North parts of the Island and drop in on a vineyard to stock up ... I have it in my head that their will be few supermarkets available selling wine in and around Kalami.

A car is a really good idea, not just to explore the north but all over Crete including the Achilles palace.
Don't worry too much about stocking up on wine, you will find a couple of supermarkets in Kalami and more stores, tavernas and restaurants 15 minutes away in Kassiopi.
