Normandy Tour

We are staying at the Hotel Le Bayeux for two days this month and would like to tour the landing beaches, any advice on a reasonably priced tour would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jon V

We used Battlebus Tours who were very good. Knew a lot of history and certainly saved us from doing all the driving. Take a look at their website - just do a google search and you'll get it.

Another vote for Battlebus. We used them last summer and did the one day American highlights tour. We were kicking ourselves for not doing the 2 day tour, it was that good. And this was 3 females (teen, mother, and grandmother).

A vote for a very reasonably-priced option: go to the Tourist Information Bureau and hire a driver with car.

The tours are conducted by locals (some of whom don't speak much English, so specify fluency if your French is rusty) whose family histories have been passed down through the years. Some of them are one generation away from participants in the events of 1944.

You can get a tour of the American beaches, cemetery, and the museum at Arromanches for 70€ per carload.

If you're in a DiY mood, check out www.busverts.fr
