Yes, my server gave me the glasses and at his suggestion, I tried those beers though I prefer wine.

Late September would be grape stomping time in Alsace. You could do some "I Love Lucy" stomping. Should be fun.

I would check -- should also be some wine festivals that time of the year.

You could actually do 5 days in Normandy, one day travel, and 4 days in Alsace. That would be my take.

Wiekse Witte is a wheat beer made by Heineken to compete with its megabrewery rival Interbrew's Hoegaarden, which is much easier to find in North America.

Forget the beer, Alsasian white wine is at the top of the world's heap.
My FR family is from the Riquewihr area and we have been drinking palates of these wines since the '50's.

Thank you for your replies. You're not making this easy! On the other hand, I don't think we'd be disappointed with either choice.

I haven't been to Normandy yet (but certainly will!), but spent 10 days in Alsace last October, and loved it. The food was wonderful, and weather perfect.
Strasbourg is a marvelous city, and the villages of Routes des Vins lovely. There were lots of tourists (mostly German, some French) - I would have been happier with fewer people and less traffic, but still feel it was a perfect time to be there. Let us know what you decide - I'm sure you'll love either. By the way, don't overlook Burgundy - it is fabulous in the fall. If 10 days might be a little long in Alsace, Burgundy isn't too far for a few of those days.. and it isn't as crowded.
