Recommendations where to stay and where to eat while visiting WWII sites.

We found a great bed and breakfast outside of Caen in 2000. Owned by American and his French wife. Is in an old manor home on the Dives River. If you are interested just email me and I will look up the email address for this place.

I recommend the Hotel de la Bellefontaine, just outside Bayeux. A perfect base for visiting the beaches and a lovely inexpensive charming place.

We stayed at Hotel Bellefontaine in May. One of the things that convinced us to stay there was St. Cirq's recommendation. As ususal she was right on the money. Rooms are large, service excellent. We got a kick out of the cows next door. <BR><BR>Bayeux is a nice little town. It is only 10 kms. to Omaha Beach. Visiting the American cemetery there at Colville- sur-Mer was one of the most moving moments of my life.<BR><BR>See the 900 year old tapestry in Bayeux. We enjoyed an upscale meal at the Lion d'Or .<BR><BR>Good luck.

we were on the normandy coast the end of may and stayed in a quaint B&B in arromanches --- 1860s manor house, overlooking the town and the sea. the owner is the town's only doctor, has been the mayor --- and is a great host, along with his family. it was about $70 a nite including breakfast.<BR>we drove from there to the beaches and mont st. michel with no trouble.<BR>let me know if you want the web site and/or e-mail address.

We were in Bayeux in early June and really enjoyed staying at Hotel d'Argouges. It combines a nice country garden with an in-town location; staff was great and room was quite large. Worth checking out. (I posted a report: Paris Provence Normandy trip report that may have some helpful tips). Enjoy

Another vote for Chateau d'Argouges in Bayeux. The receptionist gave us a map of the city and marked several restaurant recommendations, describing each one by cuisine and price, and we enjoyed two of them.

Glad to hear that Hotel D'Argouges is good. My son and I are planning to be in Normandy for the opening of the Canadian Centre at Juno Beach next June 6. Can you recommend a car rental in Bayeux...or other mid-price restaurants for dinners?

One of the best meals in our 2 week stay in France was at Assiette Norman in Bayeux. Very reasonable (meals were in the 15-20 euro range for 3 courses); small restaurant that was recommended. It is located very near the Cathedral.<BR>Although we never rented, we were scheduled to rent from Hertz which is located at a Shell station in town.
