I just did a one-day tour a couple months ago from this company and it was excellent

I did the group tour, afternoon Omaha Beach one, but I see they also have some private guide options if you want. I can't remember the guy's name who was the guide, unfortunately. I just know he was a French guy (young, maybe 30s) who was from that area around Bayeux but I think he had left for a while and come back home, he spoke excellent English.

You can book a private tour through Overloard Tours (www.overlordtour.com). We used them last November and they were excellent.

I did a one day private tour in 2010 with a man named Jacques Perreau. He lives in Bayeux, was a small child during the invasion of his town, speaks excellent english and has many personal stories of the invasion.

The name of a GREAT private tour guide in Normandy is Ellwood von Siebold. www.ddaybattletours.com or [email protected]. I have toured with him twice.

Another vote for Overlord. We did their full day tour this past June. It was a fantastic day. Their website tells you all of the places covered in that day. Next trip I want to do their Band of Brothers tour. Just a tip though, we were there in early June and it was very cold and windy. depending on when they go, make sure they have warm clothes and something to cover their heads and ears even if the weather in Bayeux or Caen or wherever they are staying that morning is nice.

Glad to hear M. Chesnel of Overlord Tours is still doing so well. We took my parents out on a day with him in 2004. Most excellent. At one of our stops he ushered the small group of us around a quite elderly man walking up so that we wouldn't be in his way. The elderly man waved us by and said "No worries. I was here the first time. I already saw it all."
