No wine for picnic at Versailles gardens !?!?

I have been picnicking for ages in the gardens, especially plaine st antoine where tables are waiting for us, but seldom ventured till end of Grand Canal, st Cyr end close to ferme de Gally (by the way, deserves a visit ). So there is an entry there (open on week-end only ) and I was really surprised the guys there were really keen on searching bags for booze. Guy told me he was lenient on families out for obvious picnicking. I was never told this coming from Versailles but yes article 17 says it all: no alcohol there.
just curious if other visitors were told or even summoned to surrender their rosé or champagne
