No Sail Wednesdays?
Hi!
I'm looking for some advice on Greek ferries. I heard that there are "no sail Wednesdays" every couple of weeks. What is the reason for that? Does it apply to all ferries, or just high-speed?
We will be traveling from Athens to Mykonos on Wednesday June 3rd, and from Mykonos to Santorini on Saturday, June 6th.
First of all, how do I know if Wednesday the 3rd will be on a no-sail Wednesday? Secondly, would you recommend regular ferries or high-speed ferries?
Thank you kindly for your advice
Kathy

I presume it's for maintenance. They do exist, but as far as I know only for the Hellenic Seaways FlyingCats 3&4 between Crete, Santorini, Ios, Naxos and Mykonos. You're safe on June 6.

That's a Hellenic Seaways practice, and doesn't apply to the other ferry companies. Hellenic Seaways uses Wednesdays (since it's mid-week) as no-sail days for some of their flying cat and highspeed ferries. That is of no concern for the Athens-Mykonos route, as there are many other alternatives.

There are lots of sailings to Mikonos. Next Wednesday (21 April), there are three from Pireas (one by Blue Star and two be Hellenic Seaways) and six from Rafina (one each by Seajets, Agoudimos, Hellenic Seaways, Blue Star, Alfa Ferries and Fast Ferries). That's a total of nine sailings by six companies. Some ships might have a day off midweek, but they will not all take the same day off and there will always be a choice of ferries to Mikonos.
