"No Jet-Lag"

Has anyone tried a homopathic over the counter pill called "No Jet-Lag"? I'm interested in trying it this fall when we go to Italy. I've heard mixed reports about Melitonin. Thanks
We have used No Jet Lag for 3 trips so far, and will continue to use it...Nothing will improve on the actual lack of sleep on the flight over, but the herbal remedy does seem to mitigate any feeling of disorientation...We usually arrive early am, get to the hotel to drop off the luggage, and head out the door for a long walk and fresh air. Maybe a 1-1.5 hr nap, then out again mid-afternoon to bedtime. After that, we're up all day. The first two trips we took before we tried NJL, and there was definitely an improvement, most notably the first couple of hours after arriving. I don't want to take anything like Melatonin or even a sleep aid on the plane... Give it a try, at the least it won't hurt anything!

"No-Jet_Lag" is a herbal mix of things to aid sleep, like chamomile. If you manage to get to sleep for a hour at the same time as you want to sleep 24 hours later, it will reset you body clock.
Melatonin is much more effective. My advice is to take it in the US 24 hours before you want to go to bed in Italy, as far as poss in the dark (away from strong light)It will make you drowsy for a short while, you may fall asleep, but it resets your clock.
For me this totally stops jet lag - I used to be very bad for 3 days.
It isn't licenced for sale in most of Europe.

Regarding Melatonin use...some 5-10% of the population has very restless and/or crazy-dream-filled sleep. I am one of those. I rushed right out and bought two bottles of Melatonin when it first became popular, used it, then threw out both bottles. Later I learned I could have returned them to my local Whole Foods store and gotten my money back. Well, live and learn. Bottom line: I would try out the Melatonin before you get on the airplane. Your experiences could be fine, or like mine.

I am seconding the warnings about nightmares with Melatonin. Fortunantly I tried it before a long flight. It will put you to sleep, and my husband doesn't have any problems with it. I get vivid disturbing nightmares (involving acidentally driving off cliffs and other unavoidable but forseeable means of dying - terribly unpleasant). These dreams persit for several nights after taking Melatonin. If you try it, try a low dose, and try it well in advance of your trip.

You might do a search for additional tips on recovering from jet-lag. I recall earlier posts with lots of good information.

Leslie,

I would simply recommend that you let the seven year old child sleep. I have two young ones and I know how unpleasant they feel and make others feel when they are tired.

Nothing can make up for that but sleep, either before or after. I would never give my child a pep pill to help them revive. However, a child's dose of benedrile may help them rest better on the long plane trip.

FYI, the April Conde Nast Traveler has
an article on Melatonin that describes how to take it in combination w/ expos-
ure to sunlight to reset your body clock
to the time zone you have traveled to.
The dose is very small and perhaps this
would lessen the weird dreams, etc exper-
ienced by the posters above. Curious to
know if anyone tries this and how it worked!!
