Besides the advertising pays for us not having to pay membership fees. The banners are OK with me. Especially since they don't take long to load. They could have been a lot more annoying than this.
Impressive how the editors have just "merged" this thread (starting with Faith's message) with the one from yesterday!!

I thought, with all the negative feedback on the ads, I should add my vote that I don't mind the ads, and if banner ads helps Fodors keep this site free, I'm all for them.

Sure, I would prefer the site without them, but don't particularly mind them (the ones they've used so far aren't the really annoying ones with so much movement it really distracts from the rest of the page).

OK - since the banner ads are here maybe it's time to come back!

They are certainly much less obtrusive than I thought they would be. There is a danger with some sites - and, without being in any way prejudiced, mainly US-based sites - that the adverts can overpower the site itself. This in turn slows or even stops loading on a slow connection (yes, most of us here in the UK still have crunchy old 56K modems) and will stop people looking at the site.

What's here isn't too bad, though. If it stays like this I might just be able to learn to live with it!
