The banners are OK with me. Especially since they don't take long to load. They could have been a lot more annoying than this.
Impressive how the editors have just "merged" this thread (starting with Faith's message) with the one from yesterday!!

From what little I have seen so far, I have no objection to this very appropriate effort to keep this site free and as little burdensome, financially, to our hosts as possible.

Best wishes,

Rex
I just tried to post a reply and went away for a long time and it still was not posted. The only ad I have seen is for Expedia and I got a good price on some tickets from them a few weeks ago. Let's see how long this takes to post.

I thought, with all the negative feedback on the ads, I should add my vote that I don't mind the ads, and if banner ads helps Fodors keep this site free, I'm all for them.

Sure, I would prefer the site without them, but don't particularly mind them (the ones they've used so far aren't the really annoying ones with so much movement it really distracts from the rest of the page).

Pop up killers don't eliminate banner ads. But I agree, let Fodors put the banners on. It gets revenue and they are simple to ignore.

OK - since the banner ads are here maybe it's time to come back!

They are certainly much less obtrusive than I thought they would be. There is a danger with some sites - and, without being in any way prejudiced, mainly US-based sites - that the adverts can overpower the site itself. This in turn slows or even stops loading on a slow connection (yes, most of us here in the UK still have crunchy old 56K modems) and will stop people looking at the site.

What's here isn't too bad, though. If it stays like this I might just be able to learn to live with it!

I am happy that a site like travel talk still exists. As long as there are no pop up's, ads are fine by me. If pop ups ever occur in the future I'm out of here.

Pop ups drive me insane too (please never use them Fodors!! A lot of my other favourite sites use them now & I just don't go to those sites as much as a result & I just get p_ssed off. Soemone mentioned some software download that prevents them opening up 0 anyone know a site to get that?
