Night train Paris to Berlin

Hello! We are thinking about taking the night train (City Nightline) from Paris to Berlin-- anyone ever done it? We are adults and two children, and the kiddos are excited about the prospect of the train ride. I have been looking at Seat61 which has a lot of good information about how to buy the tickets, though it's a bit frustrating to have to wait until 90 days out to really know what the tickets will cost. But from what I have seen it's about the same price as flying a low cost carrier, and the times are better for us (6am flights or late night). Would love any advice or recommendations anyone has!

flying will not result in a signifiacnt a memory experience for kiddos than taking a night train and that could be a more important factor IMO.

We took the German night train from Paris to Berlin several years ago. Our two person cabin was very comfortable with a private bathroom, including shower. We packed a great dinner and enjoyed the ride.

Many of my friends have taken the night train to Berlin and everybody has liked it. This might pass over the heads of the kids, but adults really feel the symbolism of the surface connection of these two European capitals over the past century and a half, and the important figures who have ridden the same rails.

While I haven't been on this specific train I have been on night trains in France and Germany, and all around Europe. My page at http://tinyurl.com/y57vft will give you an introduction to night trains. I bought my bunk reservations at stations in Europe. They cost between $30 and $50 each. That is in addition to the ticket price. I used a rail pass. Your family is perfect for a T-4 in second class. Maybe there is a T-4 in first class. Check the German rail site at http://tinyurl.com/c9jp54 for train details and some prices. The price probably won't change during the year (they usually go up on January 1) so you could do some preliminary investigation for this month.
