Nice village/town outside of Paris?
We're going to be visiting Paris this May for a week, but we've got 3 or 4 extra days before going to London for a wedding. We thought it would be nice to take a train to somewhere quaint, perhaps an hour or two outside of Paris.
We like pretty countryside, small wineries, old buildings/castles, & traditional cooking. We won't have a car. Any suggestions? Loire Valley? Ille de France? Specific towns? Thanks in advance for your comments.

I would suggest the Loire Valley-
There is a beautiful Chateau that you can stay at called Chateau de Rochecotte.
Chateau de Rochecotte
Langeais ,France
43 Rue Dorothee de Dino
Saint-Patrice
Langeais
France
37130 Tel: +33 02 4796 1616
Fax: +33 02 4796 9059
They can arrange hot air ballooning, their resturant is top quality and some of the rooms over look the vineyards..\
Here is one webiste with their info:
http://www.jpmoser.com/chateaurochecotte.html
http://www.ghotw.com/generic_hotel.cfm/id/1444.htm
It is 8 km from the St Patrice Train station..
this 18th Century château is located between Tours and Saumur in the wine area of Bourgueil and is close to Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil and Chinon.
Ask for a room with King Bed overlooking the vineyard with the walk out terrace..it is GORGEOUS!

The Chateau de Rochecotte looks great. I showed the web site to my girlfriend and she fell in love! I think we may do 3 nights there and then a couple in a small B&B a few villages away. The area is just what we're looking for. Thanks!

alan64--You are most welcome..When I went with my hubs, I did NOT want to leave..Even if you do not opt for the room with a walk-out terrace, ask for a room with a little balcony--VERY romantic..
Food is the restaurant at the Chateau is FABULOUS!!
Have a blast!
