nice place to stay in Lucca

Anybody have suggestions for a nice place to stay in Lucca? Could even be outside of the town as we will have a car and so will be mobile.

no, please do not. it will take half the country's GNP to fly this person and family to Italy to just burn up gasoline driving around the tuscan countryside.
Locanda L'Elisa is a gorgoues Relais & Chateaux property, just outside of Lucca. If you are driving it is more convenient than staying in the city, because driving inside the city walls can be a problem!
www.relaischateaux.com/elisa
Rooms run about $250.00 during high season.

Another nice place to stay nearby is th Villa La Principessa:
http://www.lunet.it/aziende/villaprincipessa/
Rooms start at around $160.00

--OR--
You could visit this website and pick form among the hotels offered.
http://www.emmeti.it/Welcome/Toscana/Versilia/Lucca/ospitalita.uk.html

Email me for more information.
Last year we stayed at Villa Romantica, about a 10 minute walk from the walled city. We had a good sized room with a big bathroom, there is a parking lot and a swimming pool.
www.villaromantica.it

We stayed at the hotel La Luna a few years ago. It was a great location, right in town. Although not luxurious, the hotel was clean and nice. They had parking available. Be careful driving in Lucca, however, the streets are very narrow and many are one-way.

I will be staying in Lucca for 10 days very soon. We will be staying just outside the walls at the San Marco which has it's own garage. Most others (especially within the walls) have you park at a tourist lot outside the walls. I will report back in mid-May.

We stayed at Hotel Celide, just outside the walls. Very convenient to walk across the street and inside the walls into the city. Nice simple hotel, but avoid the ground floor rooms (1 level below reception lobby). They have parking, we never had to use the car. Cost 340 Euros for two nights in 1999 ($185 then).
