Nice Hotel on Mallorca

I'm looking for a nice hotel on Mallorca somewhere - preferably beachfront, and something a bit special like a 5 star hotel (girls splurge weekend away...). Anyone have any good suggestions or know of any new hotels on the island? Thanks - Clare

Clare - try the Marriott Resort in Llucmayer. Its not on the beach, but in the middle of an olive grove but it is a genuine five star resort, very inexpensive for what you get and you can drive to any of the great beaches in under 30 minutes.

Hi Clare

I'm just back from Mallorca and Barcelona (7/22/02)and while I agree with Peter, the Marriot Club Son Atem near Llucmajor (pronounced "Chuca-mayhor")is a gorgous 5-star place to stay, especially the Villas..but it's a 20 minute drive into palma and you will only interact with many Europeans mostly Germans...it all depends on what you want to do on Mallorca. Stay anywhere on the island except Palma and you'll need a car. Just 20-40 minutes past Llucmajor are some gorgous beaches we visited. If you seek nightlife. Stay near Palma. If you see the slow easy pace of a Spanish pension, hostel or a B & B try up in the hills near Deia or Valldemossa. Cala Lombards, es Trenc and sa Rapita are all nice beaces on the south eastern end of the island..don't be fooled looking at maps...this is a HUGE island...1,500 sq miles...let me know if you questions..
