Nice and surrounding area
Spending time around Nice between Christmas and New Year. We will have access to a car and are loo recommendations on places to visit (Monte Carlo), stay and eat. We'd like to travel cheaply, but don't want to stay in any dumps. Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

I definately recommend Monaco - we had a ball. You can park your car right at the casino and just walk all over the city. You can walk the actual Grand Prix track, which takes you past all the main sights - the Casino, the marina, and then climb up the hill to the Palace, the cathedral and the Old town.
When we were at Nice, we also drove out to St.Tropez for a look around. It's a quiet little place with a pretty harbour - although I understand it's not so quiet during the tourist season! It was quiet when we were there! A bit of an artist's colony, and a lot of flashy expensive boats moor there. Enjoy your stay!

Four years ago we enjoyed a perfect dinner at a lovely little resto-bistro called LA CAVE in Old Nice. Attentive service, very tiny restaurant, fresher than fresh food. Lovely! It's on Rue Francis Gallo between Porte Fausse and Place Rossetti. Bon Appetit!

We just arrived of a trip to Italy and France. The last two days we stayed at Splendid Hotel, in Cagnes sur mer, near Nice. It has a closed garage and is near the airport where we returned our car. Cagnes sur mer is very convenient to all at the Cote d'Azur. The fax number is 04 93 20 12 44. Enjoy your trip. Ismael
