My son and I are traveling to Paris and then to Rome. After many hours of looking for a budget place we finally settled on Fawlty Towers. We saw it was recommeded in many travel guides and saw numerous online comments. I'm over 356 so we had to take a private room for 62E a night otherwise you can stay in a dorm style room for 18E per person. I'll leave a note when I get back on how it was.

Ok was the Hotel Clarin - via Palermo in Central Rome - minutes from all the main sights. A$120 approx in November for a double room with bathroom (though warning - the rooms are small and the bathrooms are tiny). The hotel's main attraction is its proximity to everything. The street runs parallel to Via Nazionale and is walking distance from the station (Termini). It is rated a 2 star in my travel brochures (CIT).

Some of the rooms face an internal courtyard and were very quiet though these seemed to have the smaller bathrooms and indeed be the smaller of the rooms. The other rooms face the street and though larger can be quite noisy because of Rome's chaotic traffic - ambulance sirens in abundance, along with motorbikes etc.

One note though the clerks on the desk were lovely.

Hi Pat, don't forget my $120 was Australian Dollars - so if you're in the US that works out at about $70 US for a Double room. Of course if you're in the UK that's even better.

You may have realised this but I just thought I'd bring it to your attention.
