next up - Rome!
Hi all,
Just got back last night from France and Switzerland - it was really fabulous. trip reports to follow later this week, and I can link up ofoto photos at some later point as well.
now for some new devilment to plan - a trip to Rome. I'll have a little more time to scheme this time, as I likely won't go until September.
I've yet to start poring through these forums, so as an appetizer, feel free to fill me up with thoughts of Rome! special things you've done and seen. I plan to get City Secrets Rome as one guidebook, as I've really enjoyed their London guidebook... also TimeOut Rome.
I know to look into the Scala Reale tour, as well as the Scavi (??) one. but anything else you'd like to mention to point me in a good direction, fire away!
thanks!

Probably a ridiculous question to ask but....have you made flight reservations yet?
Don't know if you are into museums at all but if you are I would recommend the Borghese Gallery, particularly if you enjoy sculpture, and, of course, for an absolutely "museum overload" experience, the Vatican Museum.
Also, if you want to see a side of Rome that isn't concentrated around the tourist meccas such as the Spanish Steps I would heartily recommend a visit to the Trastevere section of the city, for a meal if nothing else.
Have a wonderful trip.

I agree that the Borghese is a must! Your time in that gallery is limited, too, so you shouldn't become "overwhelmed" with Stendahl syndrome. A very leisurely walk through the Parco Borghese would be delightful. The Fodor's guide was actually quite helpful. Definitely go to the top of Castel Sant'Angelo and the Vittorio Emanuele monument (called the Vittoriano or The Wedding Cake by locals) to get outstanding views of the city.
Looking forward to your trip report & photos of your latest adventure,
