New Year's Eve there is pretty much the same as here. The Champs Elysees near the Arc is closed with a zillion people, like Times Square here. People have parties or go out for dinner. Most restaurants have special menus that night with one or two seatings, prix-fixe with a limited menu, and much more in cost than normally, like here. I always tell people to have a nice dinner, then walk out on a bridge and watch the fireworks coming from the Eiffel Tower, or take a boat ride on the Seine (Bateaux Mouches , Vendettes du Pont Neuf) and watch the fireworks from there. We were there last year, NYE was wet windy & cold. No organized fireworks & tower was closed on upper levels due to wind. Had a great time anyway. There was a laser shoe @ Place de Concord which we could partially see from our spot. Dinners range from A to Z in pricing mostly on the expensive side. Plenty open to do & see on NY day. There is a parade @ Madelyn that is saved by some great US HS bands. Wish We could be there again this year.

My wife and I did new years in Paris in 96/97. We arrived and it had just snowed the evening before. Light flurries were still coming down as we walked near the hotel. It was my wife's first time seeing snow. Our hotel was on Rue Saint Dominque (hotel with same name). Comfortable 3 star in a quiet, locals type neighborhood. Just step out onto the street and you see the top of the Eiffel Tower! Our favorite hotel in the same area (Invalides Quarter), just off the steps from the Musee d'Orsay is Libertel Bellechasse (8 rue bellechasse)01133-145502231 or go to the Libertel website www.mercure.com. You can't go wrong in Paris anytime.
