New UK Lockdown

The UK Government has announced that from Thursday next, the 5th November, there will be a new UK wide lockdown because of Covid 19. Travel will be restricted within the UK, restaurants and pubs will close and venues such as cinemas will also close.

If you were planning to come here, then check your travel insurance. The lockdown will last until the end of November/beginning of December.

The lockdown begins at 12:01 am on Thursday Nov 5th, long before the traditional Guy Fawkes Night celebrations normally begin. I haven’t heard of any organised fireworks displays this year, but that won’t stop individuals setting off their own, and they won’t necessarily wait for the “Fifth of November”.

Lockdown appears to be for England not the UK from Thursday for 4 weeks. As you can imagine all the non-essential businesses have just extended their opening hours so as to to fit in as many haircuts etc as possible. I'm presently trying to keep our Maker Space single person facility stay open but guess what Maker Spaces are not specifically covered by the regulations.

Wales is just halfway through its 2 week circuit breaker.
Scotland is still trying regional controls with 5 levels
N Ireland schools just had an extended break
Jersey Guernsey are relatively clean
Isle of Mann is doing fine

If you stay at the airport for a little while, you'd probably see the flight taking the swabs out to the UK for testing. The small lab on the Island doesn't have the capacity for large number COVID-Testing.
Every so often, they advertise for positions in the lab there , but it is all short tem contracts because you will always be far too poor to apply for permanent residence.
