>>He was stoopid -- he apologized . . .<<
In the present climate, more like near-criminally irresponsible: and apologies are worth nothing without explanation and acknowledgement of the underlying fault - what's he doing taking other people's money as an "expert" on something he clearly knows nothing about and can't be bothered to find out?

Having listened to the poor guy, I think he suffers from paranoia and needs a fair bit of time in an "institute". I heard him apologise on Radio 4 and there was more than a fair bit of "but......"

"The one place where you'd be sure not to find that many fundamentalist Muslims."
Not just fundamentalist. A genuine example of (sometimes unwelcome) Muslim influence in Britain is the clash of interests over dogs, which occasionally affects transport.
Some British Muslims have picked up the belief that any physical contact with a dog pollutes them as surely as wolfing down a bacon sandwich.
From time to time this creates a local scandalette when a Muslim bus driver won't let dogs on (the union argues for the right of a member to avoid pollution over the right of a passenger to get on a bus. Because defending members is what unions are for), and on trains I've occasionally found great distaste for proximity to Flannerpooches from South Asians who no signs of Chrisianophobia or concealed AK-47s. Or even absurd beards (where DID they get that fad from?).
My friendly (and cleanshaven) neighbourhood sort-of Imam says it's theological bollocks, much as my parish priest is unconvinced St Ermintrude's left toenail is going to cure anything serious. But both also agree that there's no point arguing over centuries of popular and harmless culture, and (as I discovered with Sister Mary Imelda at school and my Aunty Mary) these sillinesses are better humoured than confronted.
Which is the definition of civilisation.
Apparently, stranded passengers can call a taxi and claim compensation from the bus company - at least if the cabdriver's not Muslim as well. Flannerpooch 2.0 can (and will whether he likes it or not) just change his seat.

Birmingham is 21% Moslem - making it one of Europe's largest Muslin cities for sure but still IME ver very English - most Moslems no doubt are good British citizens who sadly must be feeling this type of stooopid insensitive attacks.

Here is a brilliant piece on Fox news. The first "cartoon" fits in well on this thread.

****He was stoopid -- he apologized . . .****
But he said he felt like he had been waterboarded. #foxnewsfacts

ou live in Michigan. Probably more there than Birmingham.>
Well yes Dearborn Michigan has one of the very highest concenterations of Moslems from the mid-east and I can never recall any anti-Semitism or terrorist baloney going on there - the only tempest I recall is when some white extreme right Christian minister came to the largest Dearbron mosque and insisted on preacing his hate out in front of it. He did not get a warm reception from all and had to have police protection.
American Moslems have rarely taken on the tinges of Jihad - with a few exceptions of newly arrived folks and are stellar patriotic citizens for the most part.
