New hotel in Brussels

A new hotel opened earlier this year in Brussels that is a great option for budget travelers: the Hotel Monty. Rooms with bath are under $100 a night and it's in a very nice residential location with easy access to all the main sights. Plus, it's right across the street from one of our all-time favorite hangouts in Brussels, the cafe/restaurant Martin-Pecheur (Kingfisher).
A link for info about the hotel, including rates, can be found at:

Thank you BTilke. I was just wondering where to stay in Brussels in August when I saw your post. I noticed they have a 54 Euro promotional rate then. I might give it a try.

Another budget plus--the hotel is very easily reached from the Brussels airport bus (the #12 bus). You can catch it at level 0 at the airport. One way is 3 euros. For the Hotel Monty, get off at the Diamont stop, then catch a tram or bus to the George Henri stop (about a two minute ride from Diamont). The hotel is right at the intersection of George Henri and Ave. Brand Whitlock. Several buses (the numbers 27, 28 and 80) serve that intersection as do a couple of underground tram stops and it's a short walk to either the Montgomery or Merode metro stops.

Thanks for this. I have been using the Welcome (which is great) since I started my monthly jaunts to Brussels. My one complaint is that I'd like somewhere nice to sit and drink a glass of wine and read a book, other than my room.

If you're still hereabouts BTilke, can you point me in the right geographical direction (I'm just too lazy to get a map out). What is it near?

I have been staying at Place Rogier, which is convenient to Grand Place and transportation. But with all the construction going on, it's hard to get a good night's sleep.

To me this seems a bit too far out of the city center to be practical because it is five subway stops away from stops in the center. That's too far even for a walker. At times, I have waited 20 minutes for an underground car, then add on time to get to downtown. For $100 a night, there are have options closer. This hotel is on the other side of Parc de Bruxelles.

Well, I've booked in for tomorrow night and the night after. I'll let you know?

Sheila, enjoy your stay! Stop in Martin-Pecheur across the street for a glass of wine (the wine of the month is a nice light Provence red; 3 euros a glass). If you want green space and fresh air, one of the prettiest green spaces in all of urban Europe is nearby at the Parc Woluwe. You can walk there from the hotel in 15 minutes; or take the 39 or 44 trams.
FYI, we've never waited more than 10 minutes (usually less) for a subway from the Merode metro stop (which serves the 1A and 1B lines; only the 1B stops at Montgomery) and it takes about 10 minutes to get from Merode to de Brouckere by metro.
Hope it's not too hot--I think your hotel is on the shady side (afternoon) of Brand Whitlock.

BY sheer coincidence this round of meeting is at the Parliament and not at Rue ravenstien, so i think I landed lucky.

Thanks for the recommendations

Ah well, perhaps not...

The place is run by a very helpful nice man, and it's clean; in the end of the day, although I have a bunch of minor(ish) gripes, that's all that matters.

But it's on the junction of a very busy road and a very busy boulevard, and the traffic noise was dreadful.

If for no other reason, I won't be going back.

Martin-Pecheur, OTOH, was a delight. That you for that recommendation
