oh yes! It is easy to get turned around.. so.. be sure you know which way to walk.. when you get off the bus, if you were to continue going "forward" you would be going up towards the Gran via and plaza de sol. If the bus were to turn LEFT there, which it does, then towards the Thyssen and Atocha.
To the right would be towards the Intercontinental Hotel, Biblioteca Nacional and Hard Rock café, Mapfre collection, Estadio Bernabeu etc.
Have a great trip.

I LOVE this bus even though they upped the original price from 2 to 5 euros! It is so convenient. If you need to go further than Cibeles or Atocha it's still worth taking it and then get a taxi to your location in Madrid.I would get off at Cibeles because Atocha taxis add a surcharge from there but Cibeles does not!

Yes but it loads at a different place.. with your back to the fountain but you are FACING the beautiful city hall. the bus loads to the RIGHT of the city hall.. between city hall cultural center and the naval museum. You will see a sign. One day when you go to the Prado.. walk towards the city hall cultural center and check out the place. 600 meters is quite a jaunt with a suitcase and probably 6-8 euros by taxi.

Sorry not to return here for so long! NH Paseo del Prado is the hotel. It's on corner of Cervantes and Prado according to the map. I'm considering cab or shuttle since I'm so old and wheezy! Thanks again, lincasanova.
