nerja accommodation

On another post I asked about the parador in Ronda and now would like to know about accomodation in Nerja. Staying in Nerja for two nights and was going to stay at the Balcon de Europa but am now wondering if we should stay at the parador? Any thoughts? thanks.

Stay at the Balcon de Europa. It has a wonderful view of the water. My husband didn't want to leave.

Here's a second for Balcon de Europa. Much better than the parador because it's right on the water. Even has a private beach area.

Does anyone know if the parador in Nerja is still under any type of construction? Also what about the Paraiso del Mar in comparison to the Balcon de Europa? I've also heard good things about this place.

The parador in Nerja is more on the edge of town, but within a 10-minute walk of "downtown". It is a modern building located on a cliff overlooking the Med. The views are spectacular, and all rooms have ocean views. An elevator is used to go down to the beach several hundred feet below. The landscaped grounds have a delightful "frog fountain" and a pool. The restaurant is excellent. You can see some of these features at the parador website (www.parador.es - go to "photoalbum" - then "Parador de Nerja" then click on both the "know the parador" and "photo-album" icons. I do not know if the remodeling has been completed.

The Balcon de Europa is also a modern building, but located in the heart of "downtown" Nerja on the main plaza. It is on the edge of the sea but not on a cliff. The plaza is a busy place, with street musicians, vendors, and performers, the horse carriage stand, and many people strolling and sitting at the many cafes. There are many nearby restaurants, many of them with menus geared towards the tastes of the numerous British "holiday-makers" who make up the main tourist and ex-pat population of Nerja.

We also stayed at the Balcon on our trip last Nov and liked it a lot. I'd definitely rather be in its more central location.

If driving, be sure to get good directions to the public parking garage near the hotel. You can't enter it easily if you drive to the hotel first. We saw a lot of Nerja (over and over again) by car when we arrived.

I had this same question about Nerja accomodations. Is there a website where I could see pictures of the Balcon de Europa and the Paraiso del Mar. I did visit the paradores website. Also, any opinions on which of these might be the best if one has children (ages 14 and 12)? Thank you very much.

Check www.jpmoser.com and follow to the Malaga section. There's some pictures of each of these two hotels and some info. Any more insight into Paraiso del Mar from people who may have stayed here?

I have not stayed at the Paraiso del Mar as we always rent an apartment in Nerja but it is a very pretty hotel located next to the parador. It is actually two attached villas. I personally would choose it over the parador or Balcon if a sea view room is available.

The construction on the parador is done. It's an easy walk along Calle Carabeo to the town center.

Someone asked about the Villa Flamenca. It is a few blocks from the sea but I don't know anything else about it other than location.

Enjoy your stay in Nerja!
