Neep help! Spring Trip to Prague, Budapest, Slovenia

My husband and I are in the beginning stages of planning a late April trip to the aforementioned countries. I am having difficulty trying to figure out the most efficient/economical way to fly in and out from the US, as well as the best way to move between these cities once we arrive. I would appreciate some travel wisdom/expertise here.

If your goal is to fly into one city and out of the other, it may be best to fly into Budapest and out of Prague or vice versa. Flights into Ljubljana, Slovenia are expensive but you can use a low budget carrier (try www.whichbudget.com or kayak.com) to get there from another European city.

Use http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en for train schedules. Trains to Ljubljana from both Prague and Budapest will be long, so you will probably want to consider either an overnight train or a flight using one of the websites above or the suggestion by laarista.

Good luck and happy planning!

Thanks for the information--my "homework" for this am. It seems we may be making this trip more difficult by adding in Ljubljana and Lake Bled, but from reading the threads, many people seem to love the areas. Any thoughts on that? Also, we like being in more of the central areas of where we stay so that we can possibly be closer to attractions of the area. Any recommendations on nice hotels? I've heard hotels are more reasonable since the Euro is not used?

A few answers that would be helpful to the forum in order to efficiently assist you...

1.where will you be flying from in US?

2.how much time do you plan on spending in that part of Europe?

3.what is your approximate lodging budget? (Max you will pay for hotels)

4.will you consider driving any part of the trip?

5. what are you major (and minor) interests in seeing these cities and countries?

Thanks twint31..it will be easier to proceed once we know the above answers.
Anything else, Fodorites?

twint31, we haven't been to Budapest or Prague but loved Slovenia. Its a beautiful country, the food is good and the people are friendly. I highly suggest a visit. With that being said, it may be easier to either drop Slovenia and travel from Budapest to Prague by train or else drop Prague and explore Budapest and Slovenia, as they are closer to one another.

Best wishes,
Tracy
