Well, bully for you, JanisJ!
You know EVERYTHING, obviously, so once you've made your pronouncement, there's no point in anyone else adding information or opinion to a discussion. If they do, they'd better be prepared for your back talk.
New Year's Resolution suggestion for you: "I will not be so defensive on this forum. I will try to respect others' opinions, even if they differ from my own."
BTW, I wouldnt call Knightsbridge convenient for "Theaterland" either.

Theatre and is exactly that ..theatres and restaurants. No neighbor hood services like laundry, food shops, pharmacies internet cafes, all thing I find vital for an enjoyable trip. From Knightsbridge there are buses that go right down to Piccadilly with a stop right at Drury Lane where several theatres are locatd.

This is basically a simple question of your budget. If you can swing it, the Picadilly area would be better for this trip. If you cannot, the the Gloucester tube area is an acceptable alternative. Simple.

I'm with janisj on this one....public transportation in London is excellent up through midnight and not the pits thereafter...many of the bus lines run 24/7 and on not te3rrible headways either (schedules are posted online and at the stops). Unlike NYC where yes we have 24/7 subway service, train headways for the most part in London are still every 4 or 5 minutes through 2330. I have found a hotel I like in what osme consider not such a desirable part of London but big deal....I go to the theatre most every night, hop on the tube and am "home" in 15 minutes with a stop at a convenience store for some snacks. I am not a late night person but, and this is a generalizaton, many London restaurants close relatively early (that is not to say you can't eat after the theatre but to each his or her own). And there's the days and whatever siteseeing you might want to do. Once you get the hang of London public transport, you realize that the city is not as large as it might seem and very accdessible most everywhere via public transportation and trust me, public transport is very safe (it's not terrible dangerous in NYC either but there is that perception it isn't). So.....do whatever you think best in terms of budget and you'll do fine.

CaliNurse: I didn't say anything about any of your comments. Why all the vitriol - too much champagne last night maybe?
I was talking about the idea that one can't eat/drink/travel around town after the theatre. Simply isn't the case.
(BTW - there are several places w/i walking distance of the Apollo Victoria - or w/i one tube stop - that aren't chains and are open very late.)
